It all started with a gif. Really a gif to end all gifs. It was so BEAUTIFUL, it led to me tracking down the series it came from and the particular generation and then the characters that make up GRACE & RICH! They are my new OTP. I mean, it's tragic right now and I'm hoping [spoilers]the coming weeks will bring Grace back to life, but right now I think my obsession has a lot to do with the shortness and tragicness of their relationship. I wouldn't say no to another scene though. Or a billion. In the last week they have both made me cry from adorableness and made me think about how they did it. They grew up. In a very real sense. I think I'm starting to want to grow up now too.

I've had a bunch of run-ins with classmates from last semester. I suppose it's not too fantastical but there is a large-ish freshman class~3k I believe. And my evil plans for the new year have begun. Hehehe.

So one of my great ideas was to take a walk in the snow through the park to pick out some necessary glasses. This picture here was at the beginning, before the numb set in. How long was I outside? Approximately 5 hours. I cannot even compare my misery that last hour to anything it was so unspeakable. I had ONE sock in those boots. ONE.

OMG YOU GUYS this CODE.
I just spent 9 straight hours on it. With a maybe 2 or 5 thrown in before.
It's so all consuming, I mean I finished with 2 days to spare. ME.
It's like my nail picking habit. mind numbing, but I just Can't STOP.
Even running on a week of 5 hour naps which I won't overstate to full blown sleep.

So this sounds more like chick lit than my usual teen novel, but honestly it's the obsessor in me. Due to my new status as a frequent flyer as a result of school, I've taken up the setting of planes. Pan Am, the new show has been dealt with and now this book, half of it set on a transatlantic flight.

The thing is I already kind of see my life like a movie. Honestly sometimes I narrate witty indie intros in my head like the opening credits have just finished as I walk the half-mile to work. It's a problem.

The Sendoff

So I woke up to a call from my friend Annette reminding me to get ready to run some errands with her. I got dressed, we walked there, I got a dozen pastry cups. Then walking back, this bus runs over a LAKE and of course I'm in front so I get the full on wave, from my head to my toes. Annette gets a bit too, but she wasn't spitting back mud water like I was. So that was her last day here.

On a brighter note, I just finished 2 of the 3 books I've been waiting a month to read. They were FANTASTIC. The Cardturner by Louis Sachar and You Against Me by Jenny Downham. I had forgotten that Jenny Downham was English and her writing really reflects the difference in culture between them and Americans. I mean most teen fiction authors that I've read– contemporary at least– have the same tone, or maybe lightness. This was a lot darker. I suppose American books can be dark too, I've just never seen this kind of tone in TEEN fiction; and The Cardturner might not be for everybody. I'm biased so I won't preach, but I really liked knowing everything Sachar said about Bridge. I've played before and had my own troubles with it so I understand COMPLETELY. I did have some fun times though. Thanks Mr. Reynolds.
The third book's sure to be amazing too as it's by my favorite author.

So I went paintballing today and it was exhausting. I thought I'd be really good, like at rock climbing, but it was so full of nature that my mind was divided into sections to keep track of paint, bugs, and dirt. Also, there were about 30 guys and 5 girls so they kind of covered everyone and I barely got a shot in. I was only hit once, on my knee, but it hurt and after that I was hesitant to head in to the field.

I moved into my dorm today after a faithful Saturday spent shopping. It was frustrating at first, but it got better. It's too hot though. I don't like how I'm sweating.
This is how my room was found. I messed up my room number, but I didn't realize until the move-in person kindly pointed out that the room one door down had my name on it.
This is what it looks like after hours of prep. My color scheme is blue, can you tell?
And after one lecture that answered all my questions, I judged that I'd had enough and so went to my room to pick at my nails with my new nail clippers. They are unfortunately sub- par and I will probably have to replace them.
This is my roommate's side. I liked her already because she chose the bunk , and then I liked her more when I met her. Her color scheme is purple.

A Skeptic

So I discovered Environmental Working Group (EWG)'s skin care database this summer. Then I went on a manhunt for the safest products to buy for when I'd started my college career. Today though, I had my first facial.

I went to Blue Turtle Spa because of the raving Yelp reviews and learned a lot more about this particular issue. The main thing was that my facialist was actually against EWG. At first I thought that was strange because I expected him to advocate for the healthier, expensiver, nicer products. Then he said that it was because their reasoning is off and therefore isn't applicable. Well, what is a database without accurate reason and info? Apparently, environmentalism is turning towards corruption. I already heard about compostable propaganda for non-compostable items, but the line is getting a bit too blurred for my liking. I'm not leaning too far in either direction, but who do I believe? I can see the bias in both ways of thinking and it's pushing me into a gray area I don't like. Uncertainty does not become me.

The only solution I can see is to read the tests and decide for myself. But, o, look, a butterfly! I'll leave that reading for another day...

I started and finished this book today and couldn't help but notice the resemblance to Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Then I read the summary on the book flap that said inspired by Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Well.

It is a modernized and fantasized version, but it includes the same markers: two cheats, cannibals, a river, slavery. I know it's fair game and all and the book was definitely good, but it feels like a cheat of a story, an original one.

Jebel seemed a tad more annoying than Huck too.

The final event of my program has gone and passed. It went as expected, which is not saying very much, but I have nothing else to say. What i really enjoyed was the day. I don't know why but I just really enjoy bossing people around and that's what you have to do when no one wants to do it. Honestly, I shy away from it with peers, just because I get carried away, but it's a different matter when I'm behind official red tape. I might imagine it as being a leader, but I don't cower from the accusation of being bossy. I mean you're just a coward.

Anyhoo, this is Shirley afterwards sleeping over. She keeps telling me i'm a dork even though she's heard all of my stories including my recently acquired magical abilities and eventual entry into Pottermore. Denial. Not just a river in Egypt.

The Rush of Adrenaline

A good rush is what I love and it always comes in a time crunch. When I try to cook three things at once, when I shove all my sentences into one minute, or when things are so behind schedule that I grab hold of whatever opportunity i find to be of use. That might be another reason I like them: because they're never short of things to do. Today was one of those days, as was yesterday, and I must say I liked the way they turned out: with something to show for it. Tomorrow's event will hopefully be even crazier. I think, if it ran perfectly, I'd be completely frazzled and everyone else would be calmy sipping soup. I think that makes me a masochist.

The Difficult Questions

This is Thy. She's a professional chef and my mentor this summer. She combines the two things I highly believe a person should have: passion and knowledge. Alina said it best when she said our apathy is our greatest enemy- I still have that one to work on. But nonetheless it's been fun, insightful, at times slow, but at others frenetic. I'm almost sad to see it end, but the call of university is drowning out most other thoughts. Honestly, I'd be ecstatic and relieved if my plans and goals for the future follow through. If they don't though, I suppose I'd just be one in the other million who changed majors, careers even. And I know it'd be perfectly acceptable and for the best and that I'd turn out better, but right now, I want to just follow my nicely sketched out plan. Maybe in the future, I will ask myself again.

I got my hair cut at a fancy posh salon yesterday and it you can't even tell. It's okay though, it's the second time I've done it and I can tell, which is the point. Afterward, I walked all over the place trying to get a portrait shot for my college I'd but nowhere had adequate light and background. In the end I settled for a decent one with slight shadowing, but here is a really well- done reject. I love it, but there's a tree patterned shadow on my face which is artsy but not proper.

I went bike riding for four hours today with friends. Not only did my thighs get a workout for the rest of my lifetime, but I also sustained a fall from the seat to the frame of the bike. That's the rod parallel to the ground. I was nervous I broke something but cast it off with the receding pain. I'm going to see my gynecologist soon anyway. I did get a slight scare with spotting though, but like i said before, receding.

One day, I was at borders looking for Where She Went. It was the day of it's release so you can probably imagine how excited- scratch that. I think it was actually a few days after What Happened To Goodbye's release day. Anyway, after I had the book in hand I was heading to the cash register when I saw it: What Would Emma Do? At the time, I was reading Emma for school and so it caught my interest. I thought there was a connection. There wasn't but I was intrigued anyway. I put it back and made a mental note to borrow it from the library. I was on a budget after all. Days later I surfing through the public library site and saw that they didn't have this particular book. What? How was that even possible in a major city like San Francisco? Well that sparked my interest some more and I proceeded to get a sample off of iBooks because I was too lazy to head to Borders as it also wasn't in stock at my local independent bookstore. The sample of course led to me forking out eight dollars for the entire iBook.

Then reading it, I became more and more annoyed at the jumble of antagonists. It was just like Atlas Shrugged in that all the religious characters were portrayed as incompetent ignorant narcissists. I'm surprised I made it all the way to the end but I'm glad I did because it holds the heart of the story. Still, such characterization of antagonists seem over the top and unrealistic to me and I can't stand them.

I'm really excited for John Green's new book The Fault In Our Stars. The reading he gave was great and from his past work I predict that there won't even be an antagonist in his story, much less an insipid one.

The final awards party at my mom's hotel. This was a fun one, with me finally attempting the casino tables. I lost all 500 points in 'funny money' but that's okay. I learned a bit about blackjack and roulette- the gambling version is slightly different from child's play. I have to say it was nice to have almost the whole gang together though. I've missed our easy talks and camaraderie and it will be nice to meet up again this Sunday for Alice's Summerthing.

Work starts first thing Monday though so I'm getting my work boots out. I actually just got new ones today so I'm actually really excited to dig my heels in. There can be no dirty business though because they are white and must keep clean! HMPH!

I don't read too many blogs so it might just be me but people seem to have less sparkle. It might just be tumblr though because I'm exploring it and the mass reblogging seems to be counterproductive to emphasizing the individual. But vlogs on YouTube seem to still be full of pizazz. I think it's just that the art of blogging has died in these last few years and so my peers haven't seen fit to study it. There are some great ones still out there, but I feel like they're all written by an older generation.

Don't get me wrong, my blog is completely self indulgent and so probably unreadable, but people have started careers this way and I just can't see that happening on tumblr. I remember Michelle Phan's blog, maybe four years ago? It died when her YouTube career took off, but I liked it and would like to see more of that from people my age.

Now, as anyone who looks at my blog has seen, I am not that photogenic. Although I have practiced and adapted my picture face over the last few years, I haven't mastered it yet. A birthday month

I just turned eighteen and it was a nice and quiet affair. This was my second outfit of the day as I went a bit weather crazy-I mean it was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold.

The day started with a trip to see the pulp fashion exhibit followed by lunch at Sutro's at the Cliffhouse. It was exactly my taste-fancy and casual at the same time. I kind of chickened out of another dream restaurant though and I refuse to let it best me. I will get there by the end of summer.

I had an X-men movie marathon yesterday coupled with the coming-of-age Have Dreams, Will Travel and the combination made me think about the inevitable nuclear war. I mean, sure now's not exactly the time of crises that warrants such a fear, but those movies just made it seem so likely. The only thing that's brought us to relative peace, ending the cold war is a static-ish understanding between leaders that mass extinction is bad. That's allowing this hold and barring of nuclear weapons. But if someone of something happened to tip the scales, and a prisoner's dilemma occurred, what's to stop all hell from breaking loose? Especially because selfishness is not a rarity, it's a norm. And even if we all want to be Professor X, some of us are just Mystique by nature, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I can't believe they actually put my notecard up! I wrote this around February when the book first came out and this is so cool! I hope it earns a permanent spot though because the turnover rate is high. So far, in the teen section at least, only Ender's Game has lasted through the seasons.

Werewolves

I've seen movies and read books about them and new they were magic, but that was it. Even in the world of Harry Potter where magic is instutionalized, I never thought critically into the concept of a werewolf. Just today though, an episode of Being Human brought to my attention a great hypothesis: werewolves change on full moon days because of the strong gravitational field of the moon. Now, as an aspiring scientist, this sounded like genius to me. Because even with magical creatures, laws of nature can be defined. Then I had a full on argument, which I won, where I fleshed out the cracks in my grasp of the idea.

I've recently gotten into the show Being Human. Like a lot of things I enjoy, it's British. And it's not just the accent, it's the dialogue, the sense of humour, the sophistication. Such content is rare in American TV. Really, I've recently felt very international, seeing Amercians from other points of view and it's not pretty. I've yet to decide what I want to be though, so I'm stuck on American.

Anywho, as may be inferred from the title, the series is very serious, but enjoyably lighthearted as well. I mean, it's really a requirement that anything that I can possible get into be partly absurdly silly. But it brought up an idea that I first started thinking about from Doctor Who, and that is the horrible monsters that we call human. It's like being an American, but you can't change the label by moving. Do we want to be human? Do I?

The only answer that I've heard is that within any group, there are the horribles and that they are not a good sample of the rest of the population. I don't really find that answer all that satisfying though. It's like a resolution.

I was just sitting there, studying in a crowded cafe that used to be my solitary sanctuary, when giants, the adjective not the proper noun, come in for an informal meeting about the development of an app on beer: the best in your location, the random one of the day, and categories of it. Today I was supposed to go to a physics review class at school. Mandatory. On a Saturday. I was late, not unusual except that this was the first time it ended badly. I showed up after a half hour bus ride and was LOCKED OUT. The door to the classroom was open and near the entrance doors, so I could have jostled them or screamed or something, but of course my dignity got in the way. So I walked. If I had been a more practical, maybe accepting person I would have stayed and, oh I don't know, waited. But of course I'm me.

I fumed for a while, but I suppose tardiness has its consequences.

I just watched it's kind of a funny story and it was really good, a bit (500) days of summer-esque in technique. What I noticed though was the small scene where he reminisces on one happy day with his friend. This friendship in the present however seems to have lost it's closeness, so that the two boys don't ever talk about anything important. Still, they used to be happy, and they will be again, even if apart. This is the lesson I take from this movie, though I know it's not the most important one. At this transition point, I am in the same spot. I look back on happier times and just hope and look forward to even better ones in the near future.

The biggest task at the beginning of a book is to try and get your bearings. I'm always wary in the first few pages, but around the middle I'm caught. I think this roadblock is probably the biggest reason more people don't read. Tv and other media is a bit more straightforward, though mostly tv. But every time I start a new book, I love feeling I get when I've finally got ahold of the story. This, more than even finishing a book, is my favorite part of reading.

I actually went through with it. It was very exhilarating, and not anti-climactic at all. Someone even recognized that I was haruhi suzumiya and not some sailor moon character. I spout words all the time. Half the time people forget about it, which I'm really thankful for because I talk myself up a lot and am not half as brave as I seem. I can feel myself shifting colors and skins. A new period of my life is going to start soon, and I seem to have started adapting already. Oh, I was conscious enough of it, but I figured that this change would need a really wide berth of time. I was disappointed when someone else initiated the first step. I just finished Where She Went, the sequel to If I Stay by Gayle Forman, and it was fantastic! Whereas the first book addressed mostly death and life, this one discussed grief, shame, and acceptance. Of course it is a young adult novel so there was a lot of fluff, but it was so well done I completely ate it up. I probably won't be reading any fluffy fanfiction for a week. But The book also makes me really excited for the future because of all the accomplishments of the main characters despite depression and anger. Granted, I'm neither, but the message still holds.

These are my original characters, Charlotte and Noah. I'm very happy with their character design and development in my up and coming novel, but it's missing? A plot. An idea other than fluff, coming of age, and more fluff. Most teenage novels do have more than that, which is why I think mine should too. It's only the fantastically amazing writers that make coming of age refreshing and edge of your seat material. Me, I need something else to make it readable.

It's ruining the illusion of solitude that I look forward to every morning. It was a bright and sunny half day today at school. But what did I do afterward? I plopped into bed.

Why?

Because what some people don't know about me is that I am not very indefatigable. So I enjoy bedtime and spending my days lazying about. Going out is fun and all but 60% of my week I would prefer at home.

I did go to lunch with friends though and discovered that I don't like thai curry. It's spicy, yet smells sweet? Why?

So I bought some Tums. Never used it before so I hope it works.

Today was a nice day. My sniffles kept it from being top notch, but it's no use crying over spilt milk.

It started at 7:30 after a very realistic, yet fantasically surreal dream in which I was running late. Ten seconds later I realized I was supposed to be somewhere in all of two minutes. So I did what every tardy-laden girl does, I dragged my dad out of bed to drive.

Whereto you ask? Why the bestest bakery in town for breakfast with my friends.
In my defence I told my dad about this the day before. He shouldn't have slept through it.

Well afterwards we headed off to Anna's for a Gilmore Girls marathon and spent the rest of the day on a couch. When her dad was driving me home, Anna and I planned our next marathon.

And that got me thinking. We were planning it a month in advance just like today had been planned a month in advance: These days of being lazy, eating junk food and watching reruns. And really, they only started this school year. I think it's because I'll be leaving next year and I know I'm going to miss the easy days. Some people I know want to hurry past this time of year in which all they can do is wait for decisions that are out of their hands (Okay sometimes I think about it too, but then what about all that time you lost by hurrying? Did I learn nothing from the last rant on time?). I think this is the perfect time to just soak in the quiet simpleness of familiarity because come August, it will be gone. I'll miss the witty banter, the unshakeable acceptance, the easy laughter, the playful teasing.

Maybe I can acknowledge it more because I'll be going further away. It's not as if I will never find all that again, it'll just take time and hard work, which is why I'm going to miss this thing I've worked through adolescence for.

And as excited as I am about change (because goodness knows I'm about ready to pee my pants), I still have a few months left before I have to say goodbye. And it will be goodbye. I don't think anyone should fool themselves into thinking that anything will be the same, even if they choose to stay or decide to come back.

No one will be standing still.

Time

A favorite subject of mine. I've read through so many different uses of it that I don't know which to believe. And the book I'm reading now, Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card is riddled with questions on the nature of time.

But if there's been one thing I've learned from all this fiction, it's that the only way to spend it wisely is to spend it toward the greatest amount of happiness for yourself. I think that's good logic. That's why we all search for those small moments of silliness that make us laugh, but on the same day study until we fall asleep.

It's like a math equation. Instantaneous satisfaction, or quality of life at present, balanced with future happiness, or quality of life in the future, and you have to try to find a balance that gives you the most happiness in the end.

Problem is that we never know when we're going to die. I suppose that's unconciously calculated into our daily life decisions but for a lot of people that doesn't seem to be the case. It's because we're teenagers, therefore by insane reasoning we think we're invincible.

It's not true. I think that if more of my peers realized that, they would save some of their breath for more important matters. Or, oppositely, spend more time letting go. For that example I go to the Doctor. I think the trick of it is his attitude. His flippancy. I always tend towards that when I get too lazy and just feel like going through the motions of school. I mean, if I'm not about to learn anyways to improve my future happiness, why not add to my present condition? So I joke and I laugh and I hope I don't die until I'm 92.

So today's been a thoughtful day. Strangely thoughtful.

Firstly, I'd like to mention that for a long while I thought everyone's minds worked the same way as mine. That they were content. That they thought they were perfectly normal and even a bit special. That they had no qualms about moving at their own pace. Well I think I realized the absurdity of that thought around 7th grade.

Now, as I know we're all different, I have no trouble dividing up those I like and those I don't. It's a simple process really. You either strike my fancy or you don't. There's also a lot of apathy involved, which I'm good with. What I don't like is those who frequently irritate me and whom I can't get away from.

Like my grandmother. UGGGGHHHHHH. I know people are supposed to love their grandmothers but UGGGHHHHHH. I am Sirius Black toward probably his grandmother.

But since I've had my revelation, I've been easily happy. Whenever a sunny day comes along where I have time to myself, I go for a walk and nothing but happy thoughts come in. I know that sounds as if I've gone a bit loopy but it's true. I appreciate everything around me at those times and can think of nothing to be upset about.

I suppose I do feel gloomy on gloomy days though. Not with friends, but when I happen to be forced into walking alone the dreary sky always make me think of a dull future. One not filled with everything I always hope for. But that's when I start talking to myself because, outloud, you hear how ridiculous you're being. I mean I have a lot going for me so it's ridiculous to mope over nothing. So I don't. In fact those moments are so fleeting compared to others that I can only recall one.

It was a very striking image. The sky was dull white and the wind was shifting the trees slightly. There was no one around, only cars speeding past.

Still, it's strange to me that I'm the only one who feels this way. Well, that I know of.

And on relationships, I think that the tell-tale sign are the butterflies: The feeling of horrifying nervousness I get when I have to speak in front of a group of people. If that ever comes from one person, then I'll know.

New Year, New Problems

I wonder if College will be exactly like high school. I never thought that before, but then again I thought high school would be nothing like middle school just four years ago.

Will I socialize enough? Will I want to?

I think I might be like Rory from Gilmore girls and just have a small group of friends and do homework and work.

Partying? I'm not really the party type. But if I stay as I am, will anything change? Should I put myself out there even if I'd rather be in bed reading? I suppose it will depend.

So, what resolutions can I make?
1. Receive some form of daily news.
2. Read more books with literary merit.
3. Watch classic movies a la Gilmore Girls.
4. Donate more to charity.
5. Try to ease out of cute coffee and into black coffee.
6. One piece of original artwork every two months.
7. Work before play.

My family celebrated on the 23rd so today has not been too exciting.

I DO have a rant though. Today I caught up on the most recent Clique book. DON'T JUDGE.
Firstly, it had the most horrible editing error I've ever seen in a published book in my life. I will not go into it because it's simply too complicated and terrible, just know that publishers, or maybe editors, have reached an all time low.
But secondly and more importantly, The book gave a great change of pace. It showed the popular girl as a victim instead of victor, so that when she rises up and regains her monarchy, it is seen as a glorius moment of triumph. And I can see it too. I speak from experience when I say monarchies are not all bad. Sometimes, too much freedom leads to a chaos that is regressive and harmful. Sometimes, there is a leader because he/she was born a leader. But I guess I don't mean monarchy in that way, but empire. The emperor/emperess gains the throne through labor, not luck.

As Lisi Harrson wrote, "It was inspiring."

I actually think the Clique series addresses a lot of questions about friendship, vulnerability and beauty. If the execution were better, more people might read it and see it too. Maybe it's because I've read the whole series and so the relationships have had time to unfold, but I can definitely see the characters as real people. Complex and confusing sure, but having firm grasps of what's important to them.

At the very least, it has taught me a lot about myself so I applaud the author.

how to become a grown up

It just happens. Today, I had two completely serious conversations, or debates, with two different friends. I think that made me see myself as old because, as a general rule, I like joking and teasing and general good banter. Anything overly serious never sits right with me. But, of course, I haven't completely lost my girlish charm (boyish charm? anybody?). I had to discuss in depth my new haircut.

It is fabulous. At first I wasn't sure about it, but then I realized it wasn't the haircut, I was just going through a bad skin day. And that got me wondering why red splotches are so aesthetically repulsive. I mean, why can't a red nose look adorable? IT CAN'T. It is just aesthetically an impossiblity. Though irrational feelings do work their way around that.

Oh, and I also had a nice conversation about dreams which made me feel better after all the serious argueing I'd been doing. But, the discussions are still replaying in my mind. It wasn't the content, but the people I was argueing with. People are so complicated. How can anyone hope to every understand another perfectly? It's impossible. Don't even try. And I'm getting that kind of reasoning from a good source. Doctor Who.

But it's true. You can't actively experiment or argue or question a person to try to understand them better. All you can do is be there and experience what may come. All your speculation can go out the window with a change of the wind so why bother? That's become my mantra. I just want to understand by observation and nature's natural course. Trying to force things out of people will just get you nowhere fast.

This belief of mine is applied strangely to science, because I want to go into research. The main part is obsevation, but a lot of speculation and experimentation go into it too. I think that that's because it's reasonable to start small. When you are starting out trying actively to understand a tiny cell, it might be plausible. Might. So it's worth a try. But once you get to the human level... well I won't judge.

But all this came from Doctor Who how? Well, in one episode, and strangely one that stars my least favorite doctor at least from 2005, one of his companions tries to use future technology to get ahead in life even though he is already a genius. The doctor becomes furius and he wonders why people can't just be happy to see and observe the miracle that is life, the universe, and everything. That really stuck with me. Why can't they? Do I? I can't say for certain, but I'd like to think I do.

But then there's people who always want to fix things. Fix other people. Good Luck with that.

Summer Now More Than Half Over

I've discovered a lot this summer.

I'm a natural rock climber, which is surprising considering I have no upper body strength.
I like the group heyhihello, which is just a remarkable discovery with the small amount of time I spend listening to music.
I like 50's fashion.
Sheer tights require so much attention, they're almost not worth the effort.
I am a good writer, at least according to some people.
Doctor Who is possiby a better show than Gilmore Girls.
Hospitals are one of the most disorganized places I've ever been to.

On those last two notes I must rant.
I mean, I know I hated hospitals before, but now I really really hate them. They are absolutely horrible and need a centralized intelligence system or something so they can stop being so inefficient.

Now, Doctor Who. I don't think genius even begins to cover doctor who. It blends together the best things in life in my opinion and doesn't skirt around on the horrible aspects of life and people. Also, there is no sex.

Does anyone know of a really good piece of media that doesn't have that in there somewhere? Because even Gilmore Girl has it. And if Doctor Who can capture audiences worldwide with no drama about sex, imagine the audiences with sex.

On a lighter note, I've had so much fun this summer! I mean sure it was interlaced with a lot of work, but,

I saw the exhibit, the birth of impressionism: masterpieces from the musee d'orsay. It was mindblowing and completely inspiring.

I went through a mirror maze. The first time, I cried. The second and third was a blast though as I had calmed down.

I went rock climbing. This is my second mention of that and that's solely because it was so amazing. If anything could ever persuade me into gym membership, that would be it.

I visited a nearby town. It was the perfect day of being a tourist.

And lastly, not exactly exciting but I bought a pair of clogs, technically mules. (clogs are open toed) I hope I'm not too self concious to wear them to school because they are really beutiful and classic vintage.

I'm still waiting on two internships, but of the four I heard back from, I was rejected.

On the bright side, I won a Juror's Award in the What About Peace? 2010 International Youth Art Contest!

Now, I'm really afraid of what my summer plans might come to. As a very last resort, I'll volunteer, but I only as the very last-can't even take a summer college class-last resort.

Recently I've also read a few great books. Before I die is such a sad novel! I cried throughout the whole second-half. It is such a contrast to my AP English book Madame Bovary. Also, I read Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. It was not as great as some of the Green's other books, but that might be because it was a collaboration and I'd never read anything by the other author. Anyways, I liked Green's half. Happy, happy, joy, joy is more my cup of tea than depression and online relationships.

It happened in a series of unfortunate failures. first, the driving test. second, a math test. third, the national scholastic art award. last, the ucsf internship. All of that between my last post and now.

On the bright side, I discovered the joy of Easter: A New Easter Dress! I'm going to start my own tradition of getting a new dress for every Easter, you know, since no one will hide eggs for me.

Another happy note, during spring break I got two wisdom teeth pulled out. I wasn't being sarcastic, it wasn't that bad and I am REALLY glad to have that off my shoulders. or my mouth. either way.
I have to get the other two out later, but at least I know what to expect now.

A bit depressing is the complete lack of time I have to read the pile of books I finally got. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. Forever by Judy Blume. And oh my gosh WILL GRAYSON WILL GRAYSON came out! I'm actually going to get it signed too! I'm so psyched! I really hope I have time to read the book before then though or that'll be embarassing.

My mouth hurts! Stoooopid canker sores!

I really, and I mean god help me really, hope that they, my canker sores, do not distract me tomorrow during my DRIVING TEST.

This is my second time taking it. I'd like it to be the last. Unfortunately, my nerves have pretty much gauranteed no productivity these last few days and that is my excuse for breaking my blogging routine.

Ah well. On a brighter note, I found a classic vintage Dooney and Bourke bag, practically exactly like the one I've been hunting down on the net, in my mom's closet. AMAZING. After all the digging I've done in there, one would think that I had found all the treasures I was going to find. Then something like this pops up.

On a tangent, it really amazes me the difference in prices between new and used items. For example, my mom bought the Dooney and Bourke bag new for around $100. Online, used, practically perfect condition ones, are $20. It's plum crazy.

And another thing, I just got FANG by James Patterson! It was as captivating as the rest of the series, but I really hope Patterson clears up some of his discrepencies when he wraps up the Maximum Ride series. Some things are just so unclear and vague that I have to wonder if an editor actually edits it.

Lastly, this Saturday I'm going to my fourth Saturday night dinner. This is my convaluted version of Friday night dinners from Gilmore Girls and oh, I do hope it shows.

decisions decisions

I have spent the last three hours deciding what to wear for tomorrow. I'm going to see Alice in Wonderland, and so want my outfit to be colorful and Tim Burton-inspired. This would be such a simple task were I allowed my skirts and dresses. But alas, I'm limited to pants and shorts because I will be rock climbing afterward. Also, I usually don't mind being overdressed, but I hate feeling underdressed and so I usually avoid sweatshirts and hoodies altogether. But, I just found this brand new oversized hoodie in my mom's closet that looks so perfect! If I didn't mind looking completely casual, I would have no problems. But, but, but, I don't want to be casual! I want to look polished like I always do! But Ugh I have no Tim Burton-inspired tops or coats!

Oh what I wouldn't give for a society in which it would be appropriate to rock climb in skirts. With shorts underneath of course.

Anime and Manga

Are part of my repetoire. I have watched so much anime and read so much manga it rivals my novel reading and drama watching. I'm mentioning this because most people don't know this about me. I don't really seem like the type to love anime and manga so much, but I am. I'm obsessed really.

However, some anime and manga just baffle me. I can't understand why people would like them. To each his own, but still. For example, my sister Irene just told me about one of her favorite anime shows: Baccanno. It's mystery, fighting, and horror and the trailer consists of a lot of gore. I like the design and graphics, but the plotline seems like it could use some tweaking...

Sleep

I've been getting a lot of sleep lately, but still do not have the energy I would expect. It's probably because I eat unhealthily, but I would think 11 hours of sleep would more than make up for it.

Anyway, that's my reason for missing a few posts. I accidently slept through them. fubar ( Just because I love references to movies and tv shows).

Do you like my ribbon? I started wearing ribbons in my hair about a year ago. I thought it would start a trend. It hasn't.

Scary

I heard about a friend's very bad summer experience before. Today, I saw the pictures. I put two and two together and imagined myself in her situation. It was so horrifying I felt like crying.

See, she went on a month long wilderness course and regretted it at its close. It sounded bad, but the pictures just made it 10 times more real. If I had been in her situation, I would have started crying 5 days in.

I think its my self preservation instinct. Being uncomfortable or in pain just doesn't sit well with me.

Can't you all sympathize?

I love people. It's just that I'm seldom in a good mood to handle them. The morning, for example, is a horrible time to be social. I'm best at it around 2 o' clock, on a good day. This, I believe, is the main reason I don't want to go into business or anything too social. I think being a Professor/ Scientist would be the perfect job because I would interact with people, but I can be cranky if I want because I'm the teacher. However, it would HAVE to be college level (hence Professor) because I cannot take the chance of having to deal with a huge degree of immaturity. Really, I think I would fail them just to see the look on their faces.

CRANKINESS. It's just because I'm tired and rather go to sleep, but have to do something.
